Phlebotomy at Chettinad Hospital adopts safe practices for sample collection and uses vacutainer products only from Becton Dickinson and Greiner bio-one which comply with FDA registration. The certificate of sterility of the product, certificate of regulatory compliance and certificate of quality for each lot of vacutainer used by the facility is documented. Specialized minicollect vacutainer system from Greiner bio-one is used for pediatric sample collection.
The facility uses Eclipse blood collection needle for performing venepuncture. The needles once used are disposed as per the Biomedical waste guidelines. Blood collection is as per the NCCLS H3 – A5 guidelines and the order of draw is followed for multiple tube collection.

Pneumatic Chute System is a vacuum driven process used to transport samples to the laboratory. In this, the samples are placed in cylindrical containers and propelled through the network of tubes thereby combining speed, safety and reliability. Samples can be transported over long distances in seconds, to the testing Laboratory. Pneumatic tube systems also transport test results back to the Wards and Outpatient departments.
